His talents have allotted him the opportunity to travel the world gracing the stages of venues in several states from Green Court in LA; Apache Café in Atlanta; to the Nuyorican Café in New York City. He has opened up and for such greats as Nikki Giovanna and Jesse Jackson. Through his socially aware poetry he has captivated and evoked social change in each and every venue he has performed. Huggy writes from the heart and performs from the soul. He uses spoken word to motivate, empower, and agitate people toward social change. Huggy is a self published poet. In his book, “Love, Laughter, Heartache and Pain”, he takes the reader on a journey through his own personal walk in life. In this book he shares very intimate details of his battles with the pain of deception, social political awareness and the struggle of the black family.

Katina L. Walton is an instructor in the Department of Education at Alabama A&M University and an Assistant Professor at Oakwood University. She is currently pursuing her Ph. D at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Her mission is to improve the lives of families and their members, giving voice to their legitimate professional, economic and social aspirations. Her focus is to bring together all members to assist and support one another and to promote democracy, human rights and education, in the nation and throughout the world.

Collectively, Huggy and Katina have provided educational and creative writing seminars at Tuskegee Institute for the 21st Century Leadership Movement; Juneteenth Celebration in Selma Alabama; and the “Equal Voices” community meeting in Birmingham Alabama.

Together their philosophy is “He, who learns, teaches.” Through spoken word and education, Katina and Huggy Bear, hopes the social change will not be revolutionary, but evolutionary in the sense that it will be ultimate tool in our struggle to make Black America better.
